The days between confusion and office hours

University is mostly self-directed, which is another way of saying that the gap between not understanding something and being able to ask someone about it is often several days long. Office hours are on Thursday; the problem set is due Friday; the confusion started on Monday. This exists to close that gap at the point it opens.

It is most useful on the material where you can nearly do it — where you follow the lecture and then stall on the problem set. That's a different problem from not knowing the topic, and it usually resolves in one session of being asked the right question rather than a week of re-reading the chapter.

Where it fits, and where it does not

Worth knowing before you rely on it for a module you are being graded on.

Best on standardised core courses

First and second-year mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, economics and computing are consistent between institutions, and that's where coverage is deepest. A niche final-year module will get a capable general tutor working from your materials rather than one that already knows the course.

It does not know your marking scheme

It can help you understand and construct an argument. It can't tell you how your department weights it, what your lecturer wants to see, or what earned a first last year. Those questions belong to people at your institution.

It is not a route around the work

It walks through problems and declines to produce work for submission. If your intention is to get an assignment written, this will be a frustrating tool and an integrity risk. If your intention is to be able to sit the exam, it is built for exactly that.

No credit, no transcript, no accreditation

Nothing here counts towards a degree or appears on any record. It supports the course you're enrolled in and does not substitute for it.

University Learning — common questions

Can it handle actual university-level material?
Yes for the standard undergraduate core — calculus and linear algebra, mechanics and thermodynamics, organic chemistry, statistics and econometrics, data structures, research methods. Depth follows how standardised a subject is: a second-year methods course looks much the same everywhere, whereas a final-year module built around one professor's research does not.
Is using it a problem for academic integrity?
Used as a tutor, no — it's the same category of help as a study group, a teaching assistant, or office hours. Used to generate work you submit as your own, yes, and that's on you rather than on the tool. It's built to walk through problems rather than hand over finished answers, which keeps the honest use easy and the dishonest use awkward.
How is this different from asking a general chatbot?
A chatbot answers the question you asked. A tutor works out that you asked the wrong question — that the integral isn't the problem, the substitution before it is. It also holds the thread across a session and pitches the next step at what you just demonstrated rather than restarting from nothing.
Can it help with proofs and derivations, not just answers?
Yes, and that is where it is most useful. A worked answer you didn't follow is worth very little in an exam; being made to justify each step is the part that transfers. Expect to be asked why rather than just shown how.
What about my specific course and my professor’s notes?
Bring them. It works from the material you have, which matters because courses with the same name diverge a lot between institutions. What it won't do is know your syllabus, your marking scheme, or what your lecturer emphasised in week six unless you tell it.
